This open-pit mine is located within the Santa María concession very close to Ariño in the Val de Ariño in Teruel (Spain). This mine opened in 1978 and was dedicated to the extraction of coal to generate electricity with a system of exploitation by transfer between panels.
In 2020 the decision was taken to stop thermal and coal burning activity and it is currently being rehabilitated to give this mineral – in its leonardite variant – a second life: to be used in agricultural fertiliser production.
The task consists of supplying terminal boxes, to support the new lighting project for the rehabilitation of the site for the new mineral use. After evaluating the requirements regarding the mining industry environment, we carried out a complete study and provided Atex terminal boxes from the Terbox Series as a solution. This box stands out for its robustness, watertightness and resistance to corrosion and is to be used in explosive atmospheres classified as zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.
